Closet Fix

In going back through my recent posts last week to add tags, I realized I use “ugh monday” or “it’s monday again” or something similar as my post title A LOT so I decided I will not ever mention monday in my post titles again.

Anyway, I we skipped out on Delta Fan Fest Saturday. I really wanted to go but adult life called. As I mentioned a few posts ago, the week before dcon I discovered the shelf in my costume closet was nearly ripped out of the wall and just barely hanging on. So Saturday was spent fixing that, and then Sunday was trying to get it cleaned up and functional again.

Here’s what my sewing room looked like Saturday morning:

It was a mess, couldn’t do anything in there. I’d taken some of the worst offenders (the heaviest ones I could easily grab) out and put them on my garment rack, and taken all the bins off the top shelf. After Chase assessed the problem, we got everything else out of there, too, and piled it on our bed:

I had really wanted to get the scale out and weigh them all before I put them back in, but I didn’t. I was really curious!

So a careful examination of the wall revealed that we had to go about fixing this a certain way which I don’t know how to explain because I don’t know what any of this building stuff means, sorry. Chase found a shelving unit at target that was within our budget and our local store (supposedly) had, so off we went. We got there and they only had one – we needed two, but turns out another location farther away had more, so we headed that way and got them there. That other store was the other side of the city so it ended up eating a large part of the afternoon.

So we got the new shelves put together, in the closet and anchored to the wall, then got the shelf installed on top of it:

The shelf got moved up about 6 inches, which is what I wanted, because even though it means I lose some storage space up top, my longer dresses don’t get so bundled up on the floor, and I should hopfully have an easier time store stuff on the floor.

The shelving unit replaced this old 5 drawer thing I’ve had in there that I haaate and originally I was going to put all that stuff out of the drawers into the new shelves. But then I realized, ooh, I can sort my fabric into here!

It’s not ALL of my fabric but I did get the fabric out of my wardrobe, and out of the drawers in my blue chest — so with those drawers free now, I moved all the stuff from the 5 drawer thingie into those. And I finally got rid of the 5 drawer thingie (I hated it, it was so rickety)

Unfortunately Chase came in to check on everything as I working on it and discovered the left side is somewhat pulling out of the wall and the shelf is still bowing. But, it’s held in place with the center shelving unit so it shouldn’t be going anywhere sometime soon, he said in a few weeks he’d have to shore it up with some 2x4s or something.

Still working on getting everything cleaned up otherwise, should hopefully be done tonight?

Last night, we had dinner at my parents house and I got to open some birthday presents early 😀 I asked for Pop Figures. I don’t have a lot of Pop Figures, so I wanted everyone to pick out their fav and get it for me.

I got Harry, Ron, Hermione, Voldemort (Voldemort has no right being that cute), Spock and Tyrion!

And then there was a double rainbow across the sky
